Our panel tested a selection for six weeks to see if they could transform theirs from limp to long and lustrous.

Here’s what they have to say about the products they tried.

L’Oreal Paris double extension renewal serum inside Mascara

A two-step mascara – one end contains a nourishing base coat and renewal serum to encourage growth and the other end contains a top coat with botanical waxes.

Tested By: Pamela Gay, 68, from Southampton. “As I’ve got older, my lashes have thinned and shortened so I’m always on the lookout for help.

“The base coat went on white and the top coat was black.

“Lashes separated nicely and they looked longer and thicker.

“After three weeks my bare lashes looked much better and even curled up a lot more than they did in the past.”

Eye secrets Lash Growth Accelerator

A physician-formulated serum to encourage lash growth and improve the condition of lashes on sensitive eyes.

Tested By: Gaynor Allsop, 56, from Axminster, Devon. “I have sensitive eyes and wearing glasses means it’s difficult for me to use mascara all day, every day, so I was looking forward to see if a product could make my lashes longer naturally.

“You apply it like eyeliner and then it turns invisible.

“For the last two weeks of the testing I had to clean my glasses more often as my lashes were brushing the inside of the lenses, so they must have at least grown a bit.

“They do look thicker, too, but sadly it seems that no one has noticed.”

RapidLash enhancing serum For Eyelashes

To amplify length, thickness and volume.

Tested By: Monica Geoghegan, 48, from Holywell, Cambs. “I’ve never had to wear mascara as my lashes are dark and thick. But over the past few years I’ve started to feel they aren’t what they used to be.

“The brush was shaped perfectly for a direct, clean sweep and the serum didn’t run. After a few days my lashes looked healthy, shiny and darker. After two weeks they looked fuller, but not longer.”

Blink Luscious Lash oil

Nourishes and strengthens with rosemary to stimulate lash growth.

Tested By: Margaret Mitchell, 53, from Market Harborough, in Leicestershire. “The instructions on the box said to use this oil instead of mascara, and to use it at night.

“I haven’t noticed any difference in length, but the product felt nourishing and my lashes are in a better condition.

“I’d use this as a night-time nourisher and for wearing as a daytime mascara in the sun.”

Kiss Everlash Md Eyelash Enhancing Serum

To stimulate eyelash growth and moisturise lash cuticles.

Tested By: Ngalula Besana, 29, from St Albans, Herts. “I was disappointed. I applied it every evening after taking off eye make-up – you paint it on to the base of the upper lashes – and waited for them to feel longer or better conditioned.

“After five weeks I had to stop using it as I got an eye infection but in that time I saw no results whatsoever. They felt the same.”

Get Lashed Lash Boost Serum

To help nourish frail and brittle lashes for strength and growth.

Tested By: Natasha Smith, 25, from Sunderland. “I always feel it’s a risk buying expensive products like this, but I used the serum twice daily.

“It’s applied with a thin brush like the ones you use to apply liquid eyeliner, so just swipes over the top of the lashes. It’s clear so you can apply your normal make-up, too.

“In just over a week, my lashes looked fuller and thicker and there was a slight change in length. Even my husband noticed! I would definitely buy it again.”

Smashbox Lash revival Treatment & Conditioner

To encourage thickness, fullness and length and to soften hair.

Tested By: Jess McCritchie, 30, from Turriff, in Aberdeenshire. “I applied the product daily. The serum went on like a liquid eyeliner and tingled for 10 minutes after, so it felt like it was working.

“The conditioner is applied like a clear mascara. Sadly, I noticed no difference in the length, fullness or condition, but the conditioner does make a lovely, if expensive, undercoat for my usual mascara – thickening without clumping.”

Urban Decay Lush Lash System

To add shine and strength to lashes.

Tested By: Roseanne Stockton, 43, from Chester. “My lashes needed fattening up, so I couldn’t wait to try this product. I used it every night – first applying the serum along the lash line, then brushing on the conditioning mask with the mascara brush all along the lashes.

“Four weeks in, I noticed a teeny difference to the thickness of my lower lashes but nothing happened to the top ones.”

Models Own Grow Fast Mascara

To speed up the growth cycle, strengthen and increase the length of lashes.

Tested By: natalie Edge-Edwards, 25, from alvaston, Derbyshire.

“A great everyday mascara, it made my lashes look really long and thick with only a couple of coats. A lot of people have commented that my lashes looked amazing.

“When I’m not wearing the product my lashes feel thicker, too, and they are glossier, with less shedding.

“I’ll definitely buy again as it’s a great price, looked good and seems to have helped volumise my lashes in the long run.”

Prestige Cosmetics My Longest Lashes Mascara

To increase lash growth and strengthen the hairs, reducing breakage.

Tested By: Leanne howarth, 24, from stafford.

“This went on really nicely and didn’t clump or lump, even after I applied multiple coats for a heavier, night-time finish.

“After a couple of weeks my lashes seemed fuller and longer.

“Now I can stop curling my lashes, I’d definitely buy this again. It is a great price.”

Jemma Kidd Lash Xtension Volume Mascara

To strengthen and stimulate growth.

Tested By: ann grier, 39, from hereford. “My lashes are straight and light – so a mascara that would actually help them grow has always seemed like an absolutely great idea to me.

“Unfortunately, after a few hours I had panda eyes, but three weeks later my lashes seemed longer and stronger with less breakage.”

Barbara Daly Lash Boost Mascara

To stimulate growth and the overall health of your lashes.

Tested By: marie chapman, 32, from headington, Oxford. “I have fine, short lashes, so would love to get them more lustrous. At first, it went on really well and gave my lashes lovely length. But the liquid thickened after two weeks and my lashes started to look stuck together. There was no visible length or condition change in six weeks.”

Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara And Revlon Grow Luscious Lash Liner

To strengthen eyelashes and complement their natural growth cycle, plus a first-of-its-kind eye pencil that incorporates a conditioning lash formula made from aloe, vitamin E and chamomile.

Tested By: Lucy Brown, 26, from Bournemouth. “The large mascara wand was great for getting right to the root of the lashes and didn’t clump on application, but the eye pencil was really soft – after two applications it had to be sharpened again.

“The colour went on well but easily smudged and the mascara flaked within half an hour, leaving black bits under my eyes.

“Both the products are nice enough, but I didn’t notice my lashes grow or thicken during the testing period.”

Liner £6.29, mascara £9.99, Boots and superdrug (designed to Be used together)
